BIO
DR RUTH FITZGERALD
Dr. Ruth FitzGerald, Psychologist
I have always found a great sense of peace in nature. I grew up in the beautiful countryside of County Kildare, Ireland which is a county steeped in history with holy wells, high crosses and hill forts. My Father and I used to spend our time walking through the fields surrounding our home, which in springtime were filled with violets, primroses and cowslips. The glorious scent of whitethorn flowers wafting from the hedgerows is a particular childhood memory. We were always accompanied by our dogs and had the most fascinating conversations, often about the emotions and behavior of humans and animals.
He encouraged me to travel, to explore the world and to learn about different cultures. I attended university in England and since then have lived and worked in many different parts of the world – the US, the Middle East, Europe, Asia and the Caribbean. When my two children were born they joined me on the adventure which for them, began in Bahrain. All of these experiences have had a profound influence on who I am and how I see the world. For me, life is a great exploration and a continual opportunity for personal growth and renewal.
My interest in psychology is very broad and includes humanistic, existential, transpersonal and cross-cultural psychology. I draw upon a wide variety of techniques and approaches including therapeutic writing, art therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, nature therapy and strength-based therapy. I hold a PhD in Psychology and have been working with individuals, couples and groups for over two decades.
This extensive experience has allowed me to fine tune my therapeutic skills to bring about effective changes quickly
I divide my time between St. Kitts, Andalucia (Spain) and Ireland and host retreats in all three locations.
Wherever we meet, I look forward to welcoming you to Arukuma and to sharing this retreat experience with you.
